Paul does not treat sin as a harmless habit to manage. He tells believers to put it to death. The command is strong because the identity beneath it is strong. Colossians has already said that believers have died and their life is hidden with Christ in God. Now that hidden life must become visible in repentance. Old desires, old speech, old anger, and old falsehood belong to the former self. They do not fit the life being renewed in the image of the Creator. This is not self-made moral improvement. It is resurrection life working against what belongs to the old age.

Today, repentance may need to be concrete. Name the desire, word, or practice that still dresses itself in the old self. Refuse to protect it. Bring it under Christ, and put on the new self that He is renewing by grace. The new identity is not decorative; it is meant to be lived.

Lord, expose what belongs to my old life and teach me to put it to death by the grace of my new life in Christ.

Identify one old-self pattern today and take one concrete step to refuse it before it shapes your words or actions.
