Exodus 35:30-35
The Lord equips Bezalel, Oholiab, and skilled workers with Spirit-given wisdom and craftsmanship for the tabernacle work.
30 Moses said to the children of Israel, “Behold, Yahweh has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
31 He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of workmanship;
32 and to make skillful works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,
33 in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all kinds of skillful workmanship.
34 He has put in his heart that he may teach, both he and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.
35 He has filled them with wisdom of heart to work all kinds of workmanship, of the engraver, of the skillful workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of those who do any workmanship, and of those who make skillful works.
The LORD equips Bezalel, Oholiab, and skilled workers with Spirit-given wisdom and craftsmanship for the tabernacle work.
To announce before Israel that the LORD has chosen Bezalel and filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of craftsmanship, and that he has also appointed Oholiab and given them ability to teach and execute the skilled work for the tabernacle.
Exodus 35:30-35 follows the people’s willing contribution in Exodus 35:20-29 and prepares for the actual execution of the tabernacle work in Exodus 36:1-7 and beyond. The movement is deliberate: covenant renewal leads to Sabbath instruction, willing gifts, appointed craftsmen, and obedient construction. This unit functions as the bridge between Israel’s offering of materials and the skilled assembly of the dwelling place where the LORD will manifest his presence among them.
After Moses calls for willing contributions and Israel responds with abundant materials and skilled preparation, Moses identifies the LORD-appointed craftsmen who will lead and teach the work. This fulfills the earlier appointment of Bezalel and Oholiab in Exodus 31.
Sabbath Rest and Willing Contributions for the Tabernacle
After covenant renewal, Israel begins obedient tabernacle construction through Sabbath-shaped submission, willing-hearted generosity, skilled labor, and Spirit-filled craftsmanship.
