Hosea 6:7-11

Covenant Breach and the Harvest of Institutional Corruption

Covenant breach produces systemic corruption and inevitable consequence.

Hosea 6:7-11 (BSB)

7 But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant; there they were unfaithful to Me.

8 Gilead is a city of evildoers, tracked with footprints of blood.

9 Like raiders who lie in ambush, so does a band of priests; they murder on the way to Shechem; surely they have committed atrocities.

10 In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing: Ephraim practices prostitution there, and Israel is defiled.

11 Also for you, O Judah, a harvest is appointed, when I restore My people from captivity.

What is the big idea of Hosea 6:7-11?

Covenant breach produces systemic corruption and inevitable consequence.

How does Hosea 6:7-11 point to Christ?

The contrast between Adam-like transgression and faithful covenant obedience anticipates Christ as the true covenant keeper who reverses treachery through righteousness.

Authorial Intent

To intensify the covenant indictment by tracing Israel’s unfaithfulness to a transgressed covenant, priestly violence, and national corruption extending from Gilead to Shechem and Judah.

Chapter: Hosea 6

A Call to Return and the Exposure of Fleeting Covenant Love

The LORD calls his people to return for healing, but he exposes shallow repentance that offers sacrifice without steadfast love and religious words without true knowledge of God.
