Perseverance Under Trial: Life Through Endurance, Death Through Desire
God blesses those who persevere under trial, but temptation arises from internal desire and results in sin and death.
James 1:12–15 (BSB)
12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.
15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
What is the big idea of James 1:12–15?
God blesses those who persevere under trial, but temptation arises from internal desire and results in sin and death.
How does James 1:12–15 point to Christ?
Sin brings death, but through Jesus Christ comes life. He endured temptation without sin and secured victory through His death and resurrection. Those who trust Him receive the crown of life promised to those who love God.
Authorial Intent
To encourage endurance under trial while clarifying that temptation originates from internal desire, not from God.
