Jeremiah 23:7-8
God’s coming act of restoration will redefine Israel’s understanding of redemption by surpassing the Exodus in scope and significance.
7 “Therefore behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that they will no more say, ‘As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;’
8 but, ‘As Yahweh lives, who brought up and who led the offspring of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will dwell in their own land.”
God’s coming act of restoration will redefine Israel’s understanding of redemption by surpassing the Exodus in scope and significance.
To declare that the future restoration of God’s people from exile will be so decisive that it will eclipse the memory of the Exodus as the defining act of deliverance.
Jeremiah 23:7–8 follows the promise of the righteous Branch (23:5–6). While the Branch describes the future king, these verses emphasize the scope of the restoration that accompanies that reign. The return from exile becomes a new redemptive act in Israel’s history.
False Shepherds, the Righteous Branch, and the Fire of the LORD's Word
When kings and prophets fail the flock, the LORD promises the righteous Branch and exposes every false word by the fire of his own true word.
