The region's kings respond to Israel's advance by joining forces. Their coalition introduces the chapter's wider political setting before the Gibeonites choose a different strategy.

This passage does not directly proclaim the gospel. It shows hostile resistance to Israel's covenant mission in Canaan. In the New Testament, opposition to God's kingdom continues, but the church's mission is defined by witness to Jesus Christ, love of enemies, prayer, suffering faithfulness, and disciple-making rather than territorial conquest. Christ triumphs ultimately through His death, resurrection, and reign, not through the church reproducing Israel's military campaign.
