Son of Sennacherib who murdered his father

Who is Adrammelech in the Bible?

Adrammelech was the son of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, who murdered his own father. After Sennacherib's failed military campaign against Jerusalem, he returned to his capital in Nineveh and entered the temple of his god Nisroch to worship. While there, Adrammelech and his brother Sharezer assassinated Sennacherib with the sword and then fled to the land of Ararat to escape punishment (2 Kings 19:37; Isaiah 37:38). Following their escape, Sennacherib's other son Esarhaddon took the throne. This account is significant as it demonstrates the consequences of Sennacherib's pride and his failed siege against God's people, culminating in his violent death at home rather than on the battlefield.
