A Levite who helped purify the temple

Who is Azariah in the Bible?

Azariah son of Jehallel was a Merarite Levite who served during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. He played a key role in the religious reform of his time by helping to purify and rededicate the temple when Hezekiah ordered the cleansing of this sacred space (2 Chronicles 29:12). As a member of the Merari clan, one of the three divisions of Levites, Azariah participated in the physical and ceremonial work required to restore the temple to proper worship. His involvement in this restoration effort reflects the broader spiritual renewal that took place under Hezekiah's leadership, marking an important moment of national religious reform in Judah's history.
