Bernice Βερνίκη
Jewish princess, sister of King Agrippa II
Who is Bernice in the Bible?
Bernice was a Jewish princess and the sister of King Agrippa II, who appears in Acts when Paul made his defense before her brother in Caesarea (Acts 25:13, 23; 26:30). As a member of the Herodian dynasty, she was a great-granddaughter of Herod the Great and held considerable influence in the region. Her presence at Paul's trial demonstrates how his case had attracted the attention of the highest levels of Jewish and Roman society. After hearing Paul's defense, Bernice and Agrippa agreed that he had committed no crime worthy of death or imprisonment (Acts 26:31-32), showing how even members of the ruling class recognized the baselessness of the charges against the apostle.
