Son of Abinadab, consecrated to keep the ark

Who is Eleazar in the Bible?

Eleazar was the son of Abinadab, a man consecrated to guard the ark of God in Kiriath-jearim (1 Samuel 7:1). After the Philistines captured and then returned the ark of the covenant, it was brought to Abinadab's house, where Eleazar was set apart for the sacred duty of protecting this most holy object. His role was crucial in maintaining the proper care and security of the ark during a transitional period in Israel's history before it was eventually moved to Jerusalem. Though little is recorded about Eleazar himself, his service represents the spiritual responsibility required to handle God's most sacred covenant symbol.

Biography

Eleazar is briefly mentioned in 1Sa.7.1 as the son of Abinadab. When the ark of God was brought to Abinadab's house in Kiriath-jearim, Eleazar was consecrated to guard it. The ark had been captured by the Philistines but was returned after it caused plagues among them. Eleazar's role was to ensure the proper care and protection of the sacred object.
