Eliashib אֶלְיָשִׁיב
Priest during King David's reign
Who is Eliashib in the Bible?
Eliashib was a priest who served during King David's reign and is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 24:12 as the head of the eleventh priestly division. King David organized the priests into twenty-four divisions to create a systematic schedule for temple service, with each division serving for a week at a time, twice per year. As the leader of his division, Eliashib was responsible for overseeing his group's duties and ensuring they properly fulfilled their responsibilities in the temple. This organizational structure, established by David, became foundational to the regular worship practices of Israel and demonstrated the careful administration of the priesthood in ancient Jewish religious life.
