Elishua אֱלִישׁוּעַ

Male Tribe of Judah H0474 2 books

A son of David born in Jerusalem.

Who is Elishua in the Bible?

Elishua, also known as Elishama, was a son of King David born to him in Jerusalem after David had established his kingdom and conquered the city (2 Samuel 5:15; 1 Chronicles 14:5). The same individual appears in the genealogical records of David's descendants in 1 Chronicles 3:6, though the alternate name suggests possible textual variations in the manuscript tradition. Elishua represents one of the many sons David fathered during his reign in Jerusalem, contributing to the lineage that would eventually lead to the messianic line of Judah. While little is known of his personal life or significance, he is part of the historical record documenting David's family and the establishment of the Davidic dynasty.

Biography

Elishua, also referred to as Elishama, is mentioned in the lists of King David's sons born to him in Jerusalem (2Sa.5.15; 1Ch.14.5; 3.6). He was born after David had established himself as king over Israel and had conquered the city of Jerusalem. The name Elishua appears in the list of David's sons in 2 Samuel 5 and 1 Chronicles 14, while the name Elishama is used in the genealogy of David's descendants in 1 Chronicles 3. This suggests that the two names refer to the same individual.
