Son of Dishon, a Horite chief in Seir.

Who is Eshban in the Bible?

Eshban was a son of Dishon and a Horite chief who lived in the land of Seir, as recorded in Genesis 36:26 and 1 Chronicles 1:41. The Horites were the original inhabitants of the region before the descendants of Esau displaced them, as noted in Deuteronomy 2:12. Eshban's mention in these genealogical lists serves to document the pre-Edomite populations of Seir and preserve the names of the ancient inhabitants whose lineage was eventually superseded by Esau's descendants.
