Who is Hashabiah in the Bible?
Hashabiah was a Levite who returned from Babylonian exile to Jerusalem during the post-exilic period. He appears in multiple roles throughout the restoration of Judah, first accompanying Ezra on the journey from Babylon and being entrusted with the precious temple treasures of silver, gold, and vessels (Ezra 8:19, 8:24). Hashabiah later signed the covenant of faithfulness to God's law alongside other Jewish leaders during Nehemiah's time (Nehemiah 10:11) and served as a Levite leader during the dedication of Jerusalem's rebuilt wall (Nehemiah 12:24).
