Ancestor of temple servants who returned from exile.

Who is Hatipha in the Bible?

Hatipha was an ancestor of temple servants who returned to Jerusalem following the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC. His descendants are listed among the Nethinim, a class of workers assigned to assist the Levites in maintaining and serving the temple (Ezra 2:54; Nehemiah 7:56). Little is known about Hatipha himself beyond his mention in these genealogical records of the exile returnees. His inclusion in these lists underscores the restoration of temple worship and the reconstitution of Jerusalem's religious community after the captivity.
