Who is Jeshaiah in the Bible?

Jeshaiah was a descendant of Elam who returned to Jerusalem with Ezra following the Babylonian exile, as recorded in Ezra 8:7. He was part of the larger group of Israelites that Ezra led back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and restore observance of the Law of Moses. Though little is known about Jeshaiah individually, his inclusion in Ezra's list of returnees illustrates the widespread participation of Jewish families in the restoration of their religious community after exile. His presence among the returning exiles represents the renewal of Jewish worship and the fulfillment of God's promise to restore His people to their homeland.
