Jeush יְעוּשׁ

Male Tribe of Benjamin H3266I 1 book

A descendant of Eleasah from the tribe of Benjamin

Who is Jeush in the Bible?

Jeush was a descendant of King Saul from the tribe of Benjamin, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 8:39 as a son of Eleasah (also called Eshek). He appears in the genealogical record of Saul's family line during the period following the Babylonian exile, when the Benjamite clans were resettling in Jerusalem. Though little is known about Jeush individually, his inclusion in this genealogy demonstrates the careful documentation of tribal lineages in post-exilic Israel and preserves the continuity of Benjamin's family heritage after the exile.

Biography

Jeush is briefly mentioned in 1Ch.8.39 as one of the sons of Eleasah (or 'Eshek'), a descendant of King Saul from the tribe of Benjamin. He is listed in the genealogy of Saul's family, which is given in the context of the Benjamite clans that settled in Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile.
