Joah יוֹאָח
A son of Obed-edom, a gatekeeper of the temple
Who is Joah in the Bible?
Joah was a son of Obed-edom, a Levite who served as a gatekeeper of the temple during King David's reign (1 Chronicles 26:4). He is listed among Obed-edom's eight sons, who were described as capable men with the strength to fulfill their duties guarding the temple gates. A different Joah also appears in 2 Chronicles 34:8 as the son of Joahaz and recorder under King Josiah. While Joah's role as a gatekeeper may seem minor, his service reflects the importance of the Levitical families who maintained order and sanctity in Israel's central place of worship.
Biography
Joah is briefly mentioned in 1Ch.26.4 as one of the sons of Obed-edom, a Levite who served as a gatekeeper for the tabernacle during King David's reign. Obed-edom and his family were entrusted with the responsibility of guarding the temple gates. Joah is listed among Obed-edom's eight sons, who are described as capable men with the strength to do the work.
