Joash יוֹאָשׁ
Son of King Ahab of Israel
Who is Joash in the Bible?
Joash was the son of King Ahab of Israel, mentioned in 1 Kings 22:26 and 2 Chronicles 18:25. When the prophet Micaiah predicted Ahab's defeat and death in battle against the Arameans at Ramoth-gilead, King Ahab ordered his son Joash to imprison Micaiah until the king returned safely from the conflict. Ahab was killed in the battle, however, fulfilling Micaiah's prophecy and leaving Joash's imprisonment of the prophet as a record of the king's rejection of God's word. Though Joash appears only briefly in Scripture, his role demonstrates the consequences of suppressing divine prophecy and the futility of resisting God's will.
