Joshibiah יוֹשִׁבְיָה
A Simeonite leader during Hezekiah's reign
Who is Joshibiah in the Bible?
Joshibiah was a leader of the tribe of Simeon during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah in the late 8th century BC, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:35. He is mentioned among the Simeonite leaders who migrated eastward to the region of Gedor in search of pasture for their livestock. Under Joshibiah's leadership, these Simeonites also attacked and displaced the Hamites and Meunites living in that territory, expanding Simeonite settlements during Hezekiah's reign. Though Joshibiah appears only briefly in the biblical record, his role illustrates the tribal expansions and military activities that occurred during Hezekiah's period of religious and political reform.

Joshibiah is mentioned in 1Ch.4.35 as one of the leaders from the tribe of Simeon during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. The context of the passage is the genealogy and history of the tribe of Simeon (1Ch.4.24-43). During Hezekiah's reign, some Simeonites, including Joshibiah, migrated to the region of Gedor in search of pasture for their flocks (1Ch.4.39). They also attacked and displaced the Hamites and Meunites who were living there (1Ch.4.40-41).
