Maaseiah מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ
False prophet during the Babylonian exile
Who is Maaseiah in the Bible?
Maaseiah was a false prophet during the Babylonian exile who, along with Ahab, deceived the Jewish exiles with lies and false prophecies (Jer. 29:21). In his letter to the exiles, the prophet Jeremiah explicitly warned the people against believing these false prophets who were leading them astray (Jer. 29:20-23). Jeremiah proclaimed that God would punish both Maaseiah and Ahab, declaring they would be executed by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. The account of Maaseiah illustrates the spiritual dangers faced by the Jewish community during captivity and underscores the importance of discerning true prophecy from false claims made in God's name.
