Who is Malchijah in the Bible?

Malchijah was a Gershonite Levite and the son of Ethni, mentioned in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles 6:40. He belonged to the Gershonite clan, one of the three major divisions of the Levites in ancient Israel. As a member of the priestly tribe of Levi, Malchijah's lineage connected him to the sacred duties and temple service that were central to Israel's worship and religious life. His inclusion in the biblical genealogy preserves the tribal and familial structures that organized Israel's religious community during the period covered by the Chronicles.
