One of the seven princes of Persia and Media.

Who is Marsena in the Bible?

Marsena was one of the seven princes of Persia and Media who served as advisors to King Ahasuerus during the Persian Empire, as mentioned in Esther 1:14. These high-ranking officials had direct access to the king and held the most prestigious positions in the kingdom. When Queen Vashti refused to appear before the king and his guests, Marsena and his fellow princes were consulted for their counsel on how the king should respond to her disobedience. Their advice ultimately influenced Ahasuerus to depose Vashti and begin the search for a new queen, which set in motion the events leading to Esther's rise to the throne. Though Marsena is mentioned only briefly, he represents the political machinery and counsel that shaped the major decisions affecting the Persian royal court.

Biography

Marsena was one of the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to King Ahasuerus' presence and held the highest positions in the kingdom. These princes were consulted by the king when he sought advice regarding the appropriate response to Queen Vashti's refusal to appear before him and his guests (Est.1.14). The counsel of these princes led to the king's decision to remove Vashti as queen and seek a new queen to replace her.
