Nekoda נְקוֹדָא
A family of temple servants who returned from exile.
Who is Nekoda in the Bible?
Nekoda was a family of temple servants, also called Nethinim, who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian exile after King Cyrus of Persia issued his decree allowing the Jewish people to rebuild their temple (Ezra 1:1-4). The descendants of Nekoda are listed among the returnees in both Ezra 2:48 and Nehemiah 7:50, where they appear as part of the larger group of temple servants who had journeyed back under Zerubbabel's leadership. These temple servants assisted the Levites in maintaining and operating the temple as part of their religious duties. The mention of Nekoda's descendants in the official records of the return from exile demonstrates their role in the restoration of Jewish religious life and community after the period of captivity.
Biography
Nekoda is mentioned in Ezr.2.48 and Neh.7.50 as one of the families of temple servants (also known as Nethinim) who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian exile. The temple servants were a group of individuals who assisted the Levites in the maintenance and operation of the temple.
According to the lists of returnees in both Ezra and Nehemiah, the descendants of Nekoda were among those who journeyed back to Jerusalem under the leadership of Zerubbabel, following the decree of King Cyrus of Persia, which allowed the Jews to return to their homeland and rebuild the temple (Ezr.1.1-4).
