Who is Nicolaus in the Bible?

Nicolaus was a proselyte from Antioch selected as one of seven deacons in the early Jerusalem church, as recorded in Acts 6:5. A proselyte meant he was a Gentile convert to Judaism who had embraced Christianity. He was chosen alongside six other men to help the apostles distribute food and aid to widows in the daily ministry of the church.
