Paul Παῦλος
Apostle to the Gentiles, author of many NT epistles
Who is Paul in the Bible?
Paul, also known as Saul, was a Jewish apostle from Tarsus who became one of the most influential figures in early Christianity (Acts 13:9). Originally trained as a Pharisee and a persecutor of Christians, Paul experienced a dramatic conversion when the risen Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus, after which he became a zealous missionary to the Gentiles (Acts 9). He undertook several missionary journeys throughout the Mediterranean world, establishing churches and spreading the Christian faith to both Jews and non-Jews (Acts 13:43 through Acts 28). Paul wrote numerous epistles that form a significant portion of the New Testament, addressing theological questions and providing pastoral guidance to the early churches (Romans 1:1, 1 Corinthians 1:1, Galatians 1:1). His contributions to Christian theology and his pioneering work in spreading the gospel across the ancient world made him essential to the development and expansion of the early church.
