Pedahzur פְּדָהצוּר
Father of Gamaliel, leader from Manasseh
Who is Pedahzur in the Bible?
Pedahzur was the father of Gamaliel, who served as the leader of the tribe of Manasseh during Israel's wilderness wanderings after the exodus from Egypt. He appears in Scripture only in connection with his son's prominent tribal role, mentioned in the census taken at Sinai (Numbers 1:10; 2:20), during the tabernacle dedication offerings (Numbers 7:54, 59), and when the Israelites departed from Sinai (Numbers 10:23). While Pedahzur himself is not described performing any direct actions, his significance lies in being the father of one of the twelve tribal leaders who helped organize and lead the Israelite community during their forty years in the wilderness.
Biography
Pedahzur was the father of Gamaliel, who was the leader of the tribe of Manasseh during Israel's wilderness wanderings. In the census taken in the wilderness of Sinai, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was counted as the leader of Manasseh (Num.1.10; 2.20). When the Israelites made offerings at the dedication of the tabernacle, Gamaliel brought his tribe's offering on the eighth day (Num.7.54,59). Gamaliel also led the tribe of Manasseh when the Israelites set out from the wilderness of Sinai (Num.10.23). Pedahzur is only mentioned in reference to his son's leadership role.
