Pelaiah פְּלָאיָה
Levite who helped explain the Law and signed the covenant
Who is Pelaiah in the Bible?
Pelaiah was a Levite who played an important role in the religious reforms of the post-exilic Jewish community under Ezra and Nehemiah. In Nehemiah 8:7, he is listed among the Levites who stood with Ezra as the Law was read aloud to the people, helping them understand and interpret the text. Later, in Nehemiah 10:10, Pelaiah appears again as one of the Levites who signed the covenant that committed the people to follow God's Law and support the temple. His participation in both the teaching of Scripture and the formal covenant renewal demonstrates that he was a respected religious leader who helped guide the community's spiritual restoration after the exile.
