Son of Josiah, king of Judah

Who is Shallum in the Bible?

Shallum was a son of King Josiah of Judah, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 3:15 among Josiah's four sons, along with Johanan, Jehoiakim, and Zedekiah. While his brothers Jehoiakim and Zedekiah both rose to become kings of Judah after their father's death, Shallum himself did not ascend to the throne. His significance lies primarily in his place within the royal lineage of Judah during a turbulent period of the kingdom's history, when political instability and foreign pressure from Babylon threatened the nation's independence.
