Mother of a blasphemer

Who is Shelomith in the Bible?

Shelomith was an Israelite woman from the tribe of Dan, identified as the daughter of Dibri, whose primary biblical significance comes from being the mother of a man who blasphemed God's name (Leviticus 24:11). Her son, whose name is not recorded, cursed the Lord during a dispute with another Israelite, leading to his arrest and trial before Moses. The Lord commanded that the blasphemer be taken outside the camp and executed by stoning, establishing a legal precedent for how Israel was to treat such grievous offenses against God's holiness. Though Shelomith herself plays no active role in the narrative, her appearance in this account serves to illustrate the gravity of blasphemy in ancient Israel and God's absolute requirement for reverence toward His holy name.
