Benjamite warrior who joined David

Who is Shemariah in the Bible?

Shemariah was a Benjamite warrior who joined David at Ziklag while David was hiding from King Saul (1 Chronicles 12:5). He was among a group of skilled Benjamite soldiers described as brave warriors who were expert with the bow and could shoot arrows or sling stones with either hand. Along with warriors named Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, and Shephatiah, Shemariah provided valuable military support to David during his exile and conflict with Saul. His decision to align with David despite being from Benjamin, the tribe of Saul, demonstrates the growing recognition of David's legitimacy as Israel's future king and his ability to attract loyal fighting men even during his most vulnerable period.
