Shemer was a Levite who belonged to the family of Merari, as recorded in 1Ch.6.46. He is mentioned in the genealogy of Ethan, a prominent Levitical singer during the time of King David. Shemer is listed as the son of Mahli and the father of Bani, indicating his place within the lineage of Merari.
