Son of Machir and Maacah

Who is Sheresh in the Bible?

Sheresh was a son of Machir and Maacah, mentioned in the genealogical records of the tribe of Manasseh (1 Chronicles 7:16). He appears in the family line descending from Manasseh, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, with his father Machir being the firstborn son of Manasseh and father of Gilead. Though Sheresh is named only once in Scripture, his inclusion in the genealogy of Manasseh preserves the tribal lineage and demonstrates the careful record-keeping of Israel's ancestral lines that established land inheritance and tribal identity in ancient Israel.
