Talmai תַּלְמַי
Anakim king of Hebron, defeated by Judah
Who is Talmai in the Bible?
Talmai was one of the three Anakim kings of Hebron mentioned in Numbers 13:22, Joshua 15:14, and Judges 1:10. The Anakim were giants and pre-Israelite inhabitants of Canaan who struck fear into the hearts of the Israelite spies during their reconnaissance mission. Talmai ruled alongside two other Anakim kings, Sheshai and Ahiman, until Caleb drove all three out when Hebron was allotted to him and the tribe of Judah following the conquest of Canaan. His defeat represents the fulfillment of God's promise to give the land to Israel and demonstrates the power of faith over the intimidating giants who had previously occupied it.
Biography
Talmai is mentioned in Num.13.22, Jos.15.14, and Jdg.1.10 as one of the Anakim who were the pre-Israelite inhabitants of Hebron. After the conquest of Canaan, Caleb drove out these three Anakim kings when the city was allotted to him and the tribe of Judah.
