Overseer of King David's wine cellars

Who is Zabdi in the Bible?

Zabdi the Shiphmite was an official in King David's administration who served as overseer of the royal wine cellars, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 27:27. His appointment to this position reflects the significant role that wine production and storage played in the ancient Israelite royal household. The name Zabdi means "my gift is God," and his designation as a Shiphmite suggests he may have come from the town of Shepham, though the exact location remains uncertain. His role in managing the king's wine supplies demonstrates the complexity of David's administrative structure and the importance of specialized officials in maintaining the royal court's operations.
