Zabud זָבוּד
Son of Nathan, priest and king's friend
Who is Zabud in the Bible?
Zabud was the son of Nathan and served King Solomon as both a priest and a trusted friend in the royal court, as mentioned in 1 Kings 4:5. He was likely the son of the prophet Nathan who had been an advisor to King David, which would have positioned him well for influence in Solomon's reign. His dual role as a religious leader and intimate companion of the king demonstrates the integral connection between priesthood and monarchy in ancient Israel. Zabud's place in Solomon's inner circle suggests he served as a spiritual counselor and advisor during one of Israel's most prosperous and significant periods, helping to guide the nation's religious and political affairs.

Zabud
:1Chr.2.36">1Ch 2:36). The American Revised Version margin has "priest" for "chief minister." Benzinger (Kurz. Hand-Commentary, 18) holds that "this expression is a marginal gloss here," while Kittel (Handkomm., 31) holds it to be genuine, though it is wanting in the Septuagint. Some suggest cokhen (see SHEBNA) for kohen. The expression "king's friend" (compare 2Sa 15:37; 16:16) is, says Kittel, an old Canaanite title, found also in the Tell el-Amarna Letters.
