Son of Asaph, a musician in David's time

Who is Zaccur in the Bible?

Zaccur was a son of Asaph, the prominent Levitical musician appointed by King David to lead worship in the tabernacle and temple (1 Chronicles 25:2, 25:10). As a trained musician himself, Zaccur participated in the musical worship services alongside his brothers during the reigns of David and Solomon. His family's legacy of musical service extended for generations, as a descendant also named Zacchur is mentioned among the musicians who performed at the dedication of Jerusalem's rebuilt wall in Nehemiah's time (Nehemiah 12:35). Zaccur's significance lies in his role as part of the established Levitical musical order that became central to Israel's temple worship and continued to serve God's people even after the Babylonian exile.

Biography

Zaccur was one of the sons of Asaph, a prominent Levitical musician during the reigns of King David and King Solomon. Asaph was a leader of the Levitical singers and musicians appointed by David to serve in the tabernacle and later in the temple. Zaccur, along with his brothers, was trained in music and participated in the musical worship services. In the time of Nehemiah, after the Babylonian exile, a descendant of Zaccur named Zacchur is mentioned among the musicians who played at the dedication of the rebuilt wall of Jerusalem. This suggests that Zaccur's family continued to serve as musicians in the temple for generations.
