Zaccur זַכּוּר
Priest appointed as a treasurer
Who is Zaccur in the Bible?
Zaccur was a priest appointed by Nehemiah as one of the treasurers responsible for managing the storehouses in Jerusalem (Nehemiah 13:13). Along with Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, Zaccur was chosen for this role because of his reputation for trustworthiness. His duties involved overseeing the collection and distribution of tithes, including grain, new wine, and oil, which were designated to support the Levites and priests. Zaccur's appointment demonstrates Nehemiah's careful selection of reliable individuals to handle sacred responsibilities and maintain the integrity of the temple's financial system during the post-exile restoration of Jerusalem.
