Midianite king defeated by Israel

Who is Zur in the Bible?

Zur was one of five Midianite kings defeated by the Israelites during their conquest of Canaan. He is identified as a king of Midian and a prince of Sihon in Joshua 13:21. During Israel's military campaign against the Midianites, Zur was killed along with the other Midianite rulers, as recorded in Numbers 31:8. After his defeat, the territories previously controlled by Zur and the other Midianite kings were distributed to the Israelite tribes of Reuben and Gad, marking the completion of Israel's conquest in that region.

Biography

Zur Zur was one of the five kings of Midian who fought against Israel during the conquest of Canaan. He is described as one of the "kings of Midian" and "princes of Sihon" (Jos.13.21). During the war against the Midianites, the Israelites killed Zur along with the other Midianite kings (Num.31.8). After the conquest of the region, the Israelites allocated the former territory of these Midianite kings, including Zur, to the tribes of Reuben and Gad (Jos.13.21).
