Zurishaddai צוּרִישַׁדָּ֑י
Father of Shelumiel, leader of Simeon
Who is Zurishaddai in the Bible?
Zurishaddai was an Israelite of the tribe of Simeon and the father of Shelumiel, who served as the leader of Simeon during Israel's wilderness wanderings. He appears in the book of Numbers in connection with the census and organization of the Israelite tribes (Numbers 1:6, 2:12), where his son Shelumiel is designated as the tribal leader. Shelumiel, as Zurishaddai's son, presented the offering for Simeon at the dedication of the tabernacle (Numbers 7:36, 41) and led his tribe in the order of march through the wilderness (Numbers 10:19). Though Zurishaddai himself does not appear as an active participant in these events, his significance lies in being the father of a man chosen to represent his tribe in these foundational organizational moments of Israel's covenant community.
