Abel-keramim light

H0064 1 book

Abel-keramim, a town near Ammon, destroyed by Jephthah during his battles against the Ammonites.

Where is Abel-keramim in the Bible?

Abel-keramim was a town located in the region of Ammon, in what is now modern-day Jordan, east of the Jordan River. This place appears in the book of Judges as the site of a military victory by Jephthah, the judge of Israel, during his conflicts with the Ammonites. According to Judges 11:33, Jephthah destroyed Abel-keramim and twenty other cities as he defeated the Ammonites who had been attacking Israel. The name Abel-keramim means "meadow of vineyards," reflecting the agricultural character of the region. This account demonstrates Jephthah's military success in defending Israel's borders against foreign invasion during the period of the judges.
