Where is Ashtaroth in the Bible?

Ashtaroth was an ancient city located in the region of Bashan, an area east of the Jordan River in what is now Syria. The city is most notably associated with King Og of Bashan, a giant ruler whom the Israelites defeated during their conquest of Canaan (Deuteronomy 1:4, Joshua 12:4). After the conquest, Ashtaroth was allotted to the Levites as one of their designated cities of refuge (Joshua 21:27). The city appears in multiple biblical accounts as a significant settlement in Bashan, serving both as a royal residence and later as a religious and administrative center for the Levitical priesthood.
