Where is Atharim in the Bible?

Atharim was a location in the Negev region of ancient Canaan, likely situated near the territory of Arad in what is now southern Israel. According to Numbers 21:1, the Canaanite king of Arad attacked the Israelites at Atharim during their wilderness journey, taking some of them captive. The name possibly derives from a word meaning "caravan path" or "track," reflecting its role as a route through the desert region. This encounter prompted the Israelites to make a vow to the Lord, leading to their subsequent victory over Arad and the destruction of the city, which became known as Hormah. The event illustrates the conflicts the Israelites faced as they approached the Promised Land from the wilderness.
