Where is Baal-hazor in the Bible?
Baal-hazor was a mountain location in ancient Palestine, situated approximately 4 miles northeast of Bethel and identified with Tell Asur, which rises 3,318 feet above sea level. The place is mentioned in 2 Samuel 13:23 as the site where Absalom sheared his sheep during what appears to have been a festival gathering attended by his brothers. This location holds significant biblical importance because it was where Absalom carried out his revenge against his half-brother Amnon, murdering him in response to Amnon's assault on their sister Tamar. The event marked a turning point in the family conflict that would eventually lead to Absalom's rebellion against King David.
