Where is Chephirah in the Bible?
Chephirah was a Gibeonite town located in the hill country of Canaan, positioned to the southwest of Gibeon in what became the territory of the tribe of Benjamin. It appears prominently in the book of Joshua as one of the cities whose inhabitants deceived the Israelites into making a peace treaty through guile, rather than being conquered by force. The town was later reoccupied by the Jewish people after their return from exile in Babylon, as recorded in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. Today, scholars identify Chephirah with the modern site of Kefireh, located north of Karyat el-Anab and situated on elevated ground with substantial ancient remains visible at the location.
