Dor light
Dor, also known as Naphath-dor, was a Canaanite city allotted to Manasseh but not fully conquered (Joshua 12:23; 17:11; Judges 1:27).
Where is Dor in the Bible?
Dor was an ancient Canaanite city located on the coast of what is now northern Israel, in the region of Manasseh. Though the city was allotted to the tribe of Manasseh during Joshua's conquest of Canaan, the Israelites were unable to fully conquer and occupy it, as noted in Joshua 17:11 and Judges 1:27. The name also appears as Naphath-dor in biblical texts, referring to the region surrounding the city. Dor's continued resistance to Israelite control illustrates the incomplete nature of the conquest and remained a reminder of Canaanite territories that resisted full subjugation during the settlement period.
