priest" (Jos 21:14; 1Ch 6:57). David after his victory over the Amalekites sent a present of the spoil from Ziklag "to them that were in Jattir" (1Sa 30:27).
Where is Jattir in the Bible?
Jattir was a town located in the hill country of Judah in ancient Israel, in the southern region of the territory. It later served as a Levitical city assigned to the priests, as mentioned in Joshua 21:14 and 1 Chronicles 6:57. The town gained biblical significance when King David, after his victory over the Amalekites, sent gifts from the spoils of Ziklag to the inhabitants of Jattir, demonstrating the town's importance during David's reign. Today, Jattir is identified with the archaeological site Khirbet Attir, located approximately five miles southeast of edh Dhariyeh in the southern hill country of Judah.
