Joktheel standard
led Sela, taken by Amaziah after the battle in the Valley of Salt, and by him called Joktheel (2Ki 14:7).
Where is Joktheel in the Bible?
Joktheel was a town located in the Shephelah, the lowland region of Judah, as listed among the cities of Judah in Joshua 15:38. The name Joktheel is most prominently associated with King Amaziah of Judah, who conquered the Edomite city of Sela after a military victory in the Valley of Salt and renamed it Joktheel to commemorate his triumph (2 Kings 14:7). This renaming reflected the king's desire to mark his successful campaign against Edom and assert Judah's control over the region. The site's theological significance lies in its connection to Judah's military power during the divided monarchy period and the fulfillment of territorial conquest.
