Where is Kitron in the Bible?
Kitron was a city located in the territory of Zebulun in ancient Israel, situated in the northern region of Canaan in what is now northern Palestine. The city is mentioned in the Bible as one that the tribe of Zebulun failed to fully conquer and control, as recorded in Judges 1:30 and also listed among Levitical cities in Joshua 21:34. Scholars traditionally identify Kitron with the ancient city of Sepphoris, known today by the modern village name Seffuriyeh, which later became a significant center of Jewish learning during the rabbinic period. The biblical notation of Zebulun's inability to drive out the Canaanite inhabitants of Kitron reflects the incomplete conquest narratives that characterize the settlement period of ancient Israel.
