Where is Maarath in the Bible?

Maarath was a town located in the hill country of Judah, mentioned in the biblical record as one of the cities allotted to the tribe of Judah (Joshua 15:59). The town was situated west of the carriage road leading to Hebron, positioned approximately one mile from Khirbet Jedur, also known as Gedor. Archaeological evidence suggests the site contains numerous rock tombs to its east, indicating it served as a significant settlement in ancient Judah. While Maarath receives limited mention in Scripture, its inclusion in Joshua's list of Judahite cities reflects its role as part of the territorial inheritance given to God's people in the Promised Land.
